Pupil Support: Help pupils stay on task, particularly those with additional needs such as SEN, EAL, or behavioural challenges.
Adaptability: Be flexible when supporting across different year groups or with varied pupil needs.

Behaviour Management: Support class behaviour policies and follow the teacher’s lead.
Confidentiality & Safeguarding: Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding policies at all times.
Team Player: Work collaboratively with teachers, other TAs, and support staff.

What is a Teacher Assistant?

A Teaching Assistant works closely with teachers to support the learning, development, and wellbeing of pupils – both in and outside the classroom. TAs may work 1:1 with children with additional needs or support the class as a whole.

Key responsibilities include:

Supporting pupils’ learning during lessons
Helping prepare classroom materials and resources
Assisting with classroom management and behaviour
Working with children with SEN or EAL both in the mainstream classroom or within dedicated units where you may require to be a little more hands on eg: personal care
Delivering small group interventions or phonics/maths catch-ups
